VISA's

to get or not to get

snow 2 °C

The realisation of this trip is more evident when you read our list of countries that we will be travelling through.......

WristbandBlue150px.jpg

passport.jpg

Countries: United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran *, Turkmenistan **, Uzbekistan *, Tajikistan *, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan *, Russia *, Mongolia *....

As is evident there are 19 countries on the way out to Mongolia.

Return Journey: Mongolia* Russia *, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Belgium, France, United Kingdom and 8 on the way back.

The countries that have a * mean we have to get a VISA for, Turkmenistan is the only country where you can get a VISA on Arrival as it is for 5 days.

In the process at the moment of sending these VISA's to the VISA Machine. So many thanks to them, working hard to ensure all the VISA information present and correct.

Car: As far as this is concerned, she is well, doing a clutch change June time. We shall the go about getting a few spares. 2 Tyres, Brake Pads, Belts, spark plugs... The thing is we will need to work on it out en-route, or at least find someone who can. So the more items we take with the better. Need to get a good power to weight ratio going on.

Route: Looking at google maps/ google earth at the moment. picking some awesome places to visit, for example: Old Nisa, Bagyr, Ahal, Turkmenistan. A UNESCO site, it is now quiet and tranquil, and it is difficult to believ that Parthian Empire, was a major power from the mid 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD and Issyk Kul, Issyk Kul Province, Kyrgyzstan. Issyk Kul is an endorheic lake in the northern Tian Shan mountains in eastern Kyrgyzstan. It is the tenth largest lake in the world by volume and the second largest saline lake after the Caspian Sea.

Resting for the Winter

The off will soon be on us

After a fabulous gig on the 23rd November, thanks to 300 odd people who came and enjoy the fantastic tunes
of Soul Traders, Team Scrumptious raised just over £1900 for charity. This will be split between our charities.

Team Scrumptious have decided to put £1350 for the deposit out of this money, which when we get that back, we will reimburse the monies accordingly.
So thanks to all who came along to the gig, job well done and I hope you enjoyed a fabulous evening.

After seeking to purchase a top box or trailer for the vehicle, it has astonished me on how expensive they are.

BagsInBack.jpg

So I decided to see if I could get our kit in it without a purchase. See pics below:

It seems that we won't have to purchase top box or an 'erde' trailer, as it seems there is plenty of room to keep belongings behind driver seat, with added cushions for comfort of passenger, put sleeping bags, roll matts underneath. In boot will be Fuel, 2 spare wheels, oil, clutch fluid, water and tools plus spares like springs, brake pads. We may even have room for some luxuries like stools and a spade.....

New sponsors have been found in DAWright and Aviators without Borders.

During December the Team is going to chill, have a relax and look at what countries, we could visit. Which Really Interesting Places (RIP's) we could go to.

Quote from The Adventurists "Really Interesting Places, are a bunch of places you might want to visit while you're on the Rally. Some of them will be obscure little tea-rooms, others will be monumental natural wonders, man-made mysteries or just tucked away little boozers with really charming bar stewards."

A whole bunch of last years Video clips have been also published these can be seen here
Click on the various Orange dots. The number represents how many videos are at that location.

Some more fundraising from Team Scrumptious will be set during next year before the off in July, Including an appearance at the Culmstock Wheels festival 2014 event in early July, This includes auto mobiles through the ages, including bikes, tractors, cars and special noteworthy vehicles, which our stead will be one of those. I am hoping to get a few persons who are involved in the Rally along to this from Devon.

Soul Traders

The Drum, The Bass and The Downright Soulful

In the spring / summer of 1999 - a group of friends got together and called themselves "absolutely no bloody commitments whatsoever" for a one off gig at the opening of Butterleigh village hall - formed by Den Hegarty and Ben Slator. After a successful gig… and over a refreshing pint at The Butterleigh Arms - "The Soul Traders were born".
Keeping soul music alive in South West - their love and common passion for authentic, true soul / blues music is clearly demonstrated by their playing it as closely to the original artists style as possible. Covering hits by Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin and other legends of the Soul/Motown Era. Covering the South West - available for Weddings, Parties, Festivals, Corporate and more.

Team Scrumptious invited Soul Traders to play a gig to hopefully a packed 400 standing hall with a cash bar. So at £10 a ticket what are you awaiting for. Every £1 counts. You can buy a wristband, or guess the total mileage from start to the end of the rally.

Woodland fair to Mongolia

Woodland to South West Ambulance Trust onto Mongolia

sunny 20 °C

July 6th 2013 - Blackdown Woodland Fair

commonpip2_hughclark.jpg

Helping My friend Stu at this years woodland fair was a blast; meeting so many new faces, and to be along side Blackdown Environmental was sure to be a very eventful day.

So people were milling around chatting to each other, Stu's staff talking about the soprano pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pygmaeus) and it's tendency to be at a higher pitch to that of the Common variety.

Many of the visitors to the Blackdown Environmental stall did some colouring and were very interested in the little grass snake Adam had brought in. So the lads had helped creating the site available for the many events through the day: Wood carivng, Horse drawn plough exhibition and the top class speed climbing showcase.

A chance meeting

GlobeDefibs500px.jpg

Coversation was had with a variety of folk, to a South African, a Chinese lady about driving through China on said Mongolian trip next year. By far the best person to bump into was Carolyn Bill, she works as Head of Logistics for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

She has managed to locate a number of items that Save Infants want in 2014 for the 'Project 2014', in fact much more than that.
So from all of Team Scrumptious, thank you very much Carolyn for all your teams work.

Now Team Scrumptious will be couriering the items over to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia over the next 3 weeks. So that Save Infants can get some of the equipment they required in 2014. Please, Please, Please dig deep and help them raise money for the essential items they require next year. If you want to give the money to Team Scrumptious we will be presenting them with a Cheque on arrival next year or alternatively you can do that directly.

Launch of the 2013 Teams

From Bodiam Castle

sunny 28 °C

large_StageTP.jpg

It was 13th July 2013, the day is upon them, the Launch day of this years Mongolian rally. After following a few teams, I was actually going to get to meet

Castle.jpg

them all. Inc. the Adventurists. After been let down by the raceway, Dover Castle, the National Trust came up trumps and let the Adventurists use the magnificent castle to host this event.

170 teams in all all lined up ready for the off on Sunday. All the cars lined up, signed up for registration and then an orchestra played in the grounds of the 12th Century Castle ruins. This is what the National Trust's website says about the idyllic Bodiam Castle: "This fairytale castle is one of Britain's most romantic and picturesque, set in the heart of 1066 country. With spiral staircases, battlements and a portcullis, 14th-century Bodiam Castle is the real thing. Windows where arrows were once fired, a tower that was once a look-out and ruins that were once walked upon by knights; this is a place where you can relive your childhood memories and let your imagination run riot." We couldn't put it better, so we wont even try.

Much Tom Foolery was had and many a drink was drunk.
large_BC_Launch.jpgBC_Dressed.jpgTrikeWorld.jpg
The morning after the night before the teams headed out after an award ceremony for:
Most amount of cash raised for charity
Best pimped vehicle
Least likely to make it
Best vehicle that looks like a trike

More about this can be read here

The best vehicle in my opinion was the one driven from South Carolina in the States and that has to go to Team Dixie Chicken Bus, so well done guys and gals.

P7140064.jpg

So thats it this years ralliers are on there way to the Czech Republic for another party and the launch of the European end of the rally, then off down to a beach party in Romania.

To follow the progress of the rally team this year you can track them live as they travel over across to Mongolia.

Team Scrumptious are continuing to raise money for the charities, currently raised just over £2080 for Cancer Research UK and Save Infants, hope to raise more. We have many events lined up. Keep in touch with what we are doing by visiting our website. We would love to have logos on the vehicle if you have a company or know of any companies that would like to get involved get them to look here.

We have our rally car already bought, it is a Fiat Punto 1.2, logo'd up by a few sponsors, plenty of room for more, whether it be with a logo of your company or website address, prices are so negotiable. Just simply drop me an e-mail teamscrumptious2014@gmail.com.

Thank you.
